Kelsey Schmidt is passionate about providing a holistic college-prep, Catholic education for all students. She earned a double-major in Religious Studies and Peace and Justice Studies from Regis University in Denver, CO. In her studies, she gained a heart for fighting to close the achievement gap for urban students. Ms. Schmidt thus joined Teach for America as a corps member in Kansas City, MO where she taught at Harold Holliday Montessori for three years. A partnership with Rockhurst University allowed her to earn her Master's of Education during that time. Most recently, she taught at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School in Wichita, KS where she grew in teaching the faith.
She joined the founding faculty of Cristo Rey Dallas as the Theology teacher in 2015 and is now the Director of Academics, where she also directs the Academic Support program.
Ms. Schmidt enjoys reading vegetarian food blogs and experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen. Trips studying abroad in El Salvador, hiking the Camino de Santiago in Spain, and volunteering with Vacation Bible School in Juarez, Mexico have been pivotal to her faith and personal formation. Additionally, she loves to run (especially as one of the school’s cross country and track coaches) and be involved with justice issues in the community.
