Randal Schmidt, Creative Writing Teacher

Randal Schmidt teaches Creative Writing at Cristo Rey Dallas College Prep. He grew up in Sinton, Texas and graduated from Texas A&M University in 2011 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and History. Upon graduation, he completed his studies in secondary education through a post-baccalaureate program affiliated with the College of Education and Human Development at Texas A&M University.

Before joining Cristo Rey Dallas College Prep, Mr. Schmidt taught English Language Arts for four years at Frost High School, a small rural public school serving predominantly low-income students. While at Frost, he coached the UIL Chess Puzzle Team, co-founded and sponsored the Frost Drama Club and directed the Junior High and High School One Act Plays.

Under his pen name, R.W. Schmidt, he is the author of the fantasy novel, The Lands Beyond the Moon, and the editor of a special classroom edition of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. He has completed another yet-unpublished novel and is currently writing his third. In addition to writing, he enjoys drawing and sketching, reading, and traveling the world as much as possible.

Mr. Schmidt lives in Ennis with his wife of seven years, Brett; his (almost) three-year-old son, James; and his seven-month-old daughter, Emilia.
